Both experiential and practical learning are important for students of the Faculty of International Studies. In particular, it is expected that students will “know” the reality of society, “relate” with local people and “develop” themselves through the leaning process. In this regard, our Faculty has been providing many chances for students to learn practically utilizing good collaborations with local organizations based on the Shonan Campus.
However, after 2021, it will be a big challenge to keep organizing possibilities for students’ practical learning around our new campus.
This is a brief report on our project carried out for the purpose of launching the foundation of experienced based learning near the Tokyo Adachi campus. Our survey was conducted from the following four perspectives: “open community”, “sports”, “coexistence” and “participation”. The goal to establish an image of “Adachi studies” and forming a local network were examined. From the above perspectives, it was found that there is a high possibility and there are benefits for setting students’ practical learning in the local society. At the same time, a fruitful contribution to the community and a big responsibility of our faculty were also confirmed.
