Women around the menopause age were classified into three groups, the first group having positive image of old age, the second group having negative image against old age, and the third group having neutral image, and the three groups were compared. A sample of 776 women (ages 36 to 65) completed questionnaires about attitudes toward menopause, including (1) evaluation of menopause, (2) fear against menopause, and (3) feelings toward stopping of menstruation. The image of old age was evaluated by dividing the image into five levels from “positive” to “negative”. The results were as follows. 1. As for the evaluation of menopause, the attitude of the majority was neutral. There was a tendency among the group having a “negative” old age image to have a negative evaluation of menopause. 2. A majority answered that they do not feel much fear against menopause.
