Among their peers children's verbal play was spontaneously generated rather than quoted. Children's play with language has a powerful and long-standing oral tradition in folk culture. It also has a peculiar cultural role in their self-contained community. We can see many genres and uses of rhetoric in children's play with language that were based on nonsense and satire.
