<datacite:description descriptionType="Abstract">This article examines the characteristics of Zen by Zen Master Bankei in the history of religious　thought.
First, it examines the logical construction of his proposition that "The Buddha Mind is unborn and self-illuminating" from the viewpoint of predicate logic, raising several points.
Second, the article compares this with previous in which the term "unborn" (不生) was explicitly used in Zen during the Tang Dynasty in China, and then compares it with the Fundamental Enlightenment (本覚思想) which can be safely said to be the goal of religious thought in Japan.
Finaly, it compares his teaching with salvation by tariki (by anothen power = by amit?bha, amit?yur Buddha), pointing out the characteristics of Bankei Zen and considering its relationship with ecology.</datacite:description>
