タイ語の可能表現について On the Expressions of Possibility in the Thai Language タイゴ ノ カノウ ヒョウゲン ニ ツイテ 田中, 寛 タイ語 可能表現 動詞連続 許可・禁止表現 対照研究 The Thai language has two basic ways of expressing possibility. One is those using such auxiliaries as dâj, pen, wăj; the other being expressions using direction verbs like ɔ̀ɔg, khâw, khŷn, loŋ, or those using some verbs as complement of result. The first group of expressions have some typical structures through which conditions of possibility are created. The second group of expressions, on the other hand, are characterzed by their more analytic meaning. They are distinct, particularly in the forms of negation, in that a greater emphasis is placed on the result of an action, and that the background of the situations is implied. Some of these expressions are more rule-governed while some others are less so, and therefore more idiomatic. In this paper, an attempt has been made to examine such features of these two types of expressions by contrasting Thai with Japanese and, in some cases, with Chinese.
