Semi-structured interviews were conducted before, during, and after 15 classes. The results of the qualitative analysis showed that students' motivation changed as the lessons progressed. We further found that the characteristics of project-based learning （e.g., self-determination regarding the content of activities and activities outside the university） and the nature of the group （e.g., cooperative relationships with other learners and disagreements） influence fluctuation in motivation.
