Total of 304 articles concerning physical and mental disabilities were sampled. The articles are classified to 1 : 210 articles on disabled persons and their families, and 2 : 94 on social aspects about the disabilities. It is observed that eighty five persents of articles have been published in morning newspapers. Each newspaper published about one third of total number of articles. There is an obvious skewness in categories of disabilities. Number of articles were dominated by physical and visual disabilities. Articles on mental retarded are small. Chronic disease, psychiatric disease and severely multi-hadicap are almost neglected in newspapers. People are apt to imagine wheel chair and white cane. From the viewpoint of promotion of HUMAN RIGHT, newspapers should write the articles on the disabled. It means that newspapers should express the idea of NORMALIZATION, that is to say the integration the disabled into our society. Although the tendency that efforts of the disabled are idealized, adimired and made beautiful is still common, the essential and practical articles become to appear little by little. This time I tried to analyze these articles in connection with the disabled's demands for newspaper by themselves, and the newspaperman's opinion about these kind of articles. Sensationalism and sentimentalism are clear. Besides, about these two Ss' expression the disabled's selves feel unpleasant and the newspaperman criticizes by himself. This result encourages me, because my hypothesis is that social attitiudes toward the disabled will be reflected in newspapers. So, real "normalization and integration" must be needed and promoted.}, pages = {39--55}, title = {新聞に見る障害者に対する社会の意識}, volume = {11}, year = {} }
