In the western countries, the Father was symbolized as God, and God was compared to father. The father as God was the Creator of this world. Then, the existance of father was symbolized as Law. Father as Law represented the standard of the society, and he posessed absolute right and authority regarding his family and children. In modern times, father became the symbol of society. This father, especially, serves to impart to the children the cultual pattern in the basic social system. At the same time, for boys, their father plays the role model for the sexual part of human. Father as society prohibits intimate relationship between mother and son, also presents an excess communication between then. As a result, the children develop their self -independence. However, on the mother's side, preceding thid storng existance of father, there exsits another father who is kind and affectionate. This father in mother has the role of a bridge, so that the children may identify themselves with the strong father, that is the father of society. At the present, the symbolism of father is less important, because father depends on schools for his power as law and the sexual role of father has been taken away by the hand of mass communication. Nowadays, the seach is for a new meaning of father as a human, rather than his existance as a symbol.}, pages = {56--66}, title = {「父」の象徴と意味}, volume = {11}, year = {} }
