| 内容記述 | The recognition that institutional care alone is inadequate to meet the needs of older persons with psychiatric problems, as well as the strong desire to avoid the detrimental consequences of long-term inpatient care have furthered the development of day programs. Geriatric day programs generally have multiple objectives, to provide socialization to physically and emotionally disabled older people, to help maintain them at home or in community residents, to provide integrated sevices, to prevent unnecessary hospitalization, and to provide support and relief for family members who care for disabled elders. This is the report about starting and terminal programs for the elderly dimented. The typical starting one is day centre or day hospital. The Raglan Day Centre in London was originally intended to provide relif for families suffering stress and in need of temporary help in, or a temporary break from, caring for an elderly relative suffering from cunfusion, incontinence, personality difficulties, etc. However, demand has been for regular attendance. Thus, the centre seeks to offer a caring and protective environment in respose to this demand. The users of the service are elderly people who suffer from dementia or mental illness. The centre are facilities for about 30 people and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p. m. for five days per week. The typical terminal care is in gerontro-psychiatric hospital. Copenhagen has 5 such hospitals. RINGBO is the first one. There are places for about 280 patients divided into 12 departments. During 5 years, 370 patients died and 37 were sent home. This means that the patients stay at the hospital for 3 years in average. RINGO for almost all of the patients will have to be the place where they will spent the rest of their life, RINGBO is trying to make their staying as attacctive as possible. |
