Shi is a Japanese conjuctive particle. It was pointed out that the morphemes shi attached to a predicate constitutes parallel clauses. But shi-clauses have a wider range of use. Therefore, its function cannot be exlpained from the point of view that shi constitutes parallel classes. This paper claims follwing points. (1) On Japanese complex sentence P-shi Q, shi is not used between P and Q.shi attaches to P. (2) Shi-clauses have 5 types of use. But shi-clauses don't have characteristic significance.
