内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In general dicotyledonous plants, young leaves have a strict dorsiventrality in regard to the shoot apical meristem from which they are derived. Hofmeister (1868), however, described the different type of the leaf dorsiventrality, in which young leaves at the apical portion of a shoot are oriented to a certain definite direction other than to the shoot apical meristem in Plamera Richardii, Ulmus effusa, and Begonia fagifolia. In such a type the laminae of young leaves have grown toward one definite direction, so that all the leaves in the shoot apical portion face to the same direction.
The present auther found that axillary bud of Zelkova serrata has a similarity in the leaf orientation to the shoot of Planera Richardii described by Hofmeister (Soma, 1965). Then the shoot apices of Begonia now called Begonia fogifolia were examined and found that apical configulation of this species belong to the usual dicotyledonous type, quite different from Hofmerister's Begonia (Soma, 1982).
In this study four species of Begonia, namely Begonia perfectiflora, B. ulmifolia, B. albopicta, B. incarnata var. sandersii were examined. All of these species belong to the upright type Begonia with fibrous roots, and they all came from the Middle or South America.
The shoot apices were fixed with Craf sol., dehydrated and imbedded in paraffin, then they were sectioned at 10micron thick and stained with Heidenhein-haematoxylin and fast green.
In the shoot apices of all these species, the laminae of existing young leaves were found to be oriented to the same definite direction, so as not to encircle the shoot apical meristem. Moreover, the laminae of young leaves formed in the axillay bud are also oriented to the similar direction to that of the laminae of the subtending leaf. However, a cross section of the petiole having the adaxial concave and the abaxial convex surfaces show the dorsiventrality in regard to the shoot axis. All above finding for four species of Begonia are in accordance with those of Hofmeister for his Begonia. Only difference is in the arrangement of the stipules. In Hofmeister's Begonia, a pair of stipules of each leaf surround both the laminal part and more distal portion of the shoot aspex togather, while in these four species of Begonia examined both stipules of each leaf surround only the distal portion of the shoot apex excluding the laminal part of that leaf.
