Since the Edo period, people in this region have utilized guidebooks what to eat during emergency in order to survive. This study aims to examine the evolution of the Northern Tohoku region’s daily diet from then to now. For this study, a field survey was planned in a community within Ninohe City, Iwate Prefecture. This study clarifies the process of the investigation. In the procedure, the list of plants described in past documents and guides were matched with existing vegetation. And a list was created in which photos and illustration materials of the listed plants extracted from the said documents.
