内容記述 | The goal of this paper is to investigate the relationship of the Nanjing Nationalist Government with the changes in the regional transportation network in the 1930s. By focusing on Zhuzhou-Shaoguan-Yuehan Railway in September 1936, this article delves into the trajectory of transportation construction in Central and Southern China. The problem of transportation construction at this time was closely related to Central and Southern China economic integration. In other words, it is an important example of transportation construction that will significantly change the local economy and will therefore be the subject of the study. The most important matter for the development of the Central and Southern China transport network was to complete Zhuzhou-Shaoguan-Yuehan Railway in September 1936. At the time, the railway construction plan for all the places of China was carried out by the Chinese-owned Ministry of Railways under the economic construction policies. However, in the Central and southern China regions, such as Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Jiangxi and Fujian, railway construction could undermine the conventional transportation industry of the region. As a result, the opening of the Yuehan railway weakened the Central and Southern China river water transport industry. Instead, the traffic network developed around the railway station. Therefore, Zhuzhou-Shaoguan-Yuehan Railway offers a good example of how the state-led transportation construction impacted the local transport industry of the period. |
