| 内容記述 | The importance of sustainable tourism is growing, and efforts to address this issue are progressing in many countries around the world. Although multiple certification standards are currently in disarray, the quality of conventional standards is improving with the development of the GSTC standards. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to confirm the contents of the GSTC standards in the four areas, i.e., destinations, tour operators, hotels, and MICE, to investigate the status of the certification system in Japan, and to explore future issues. In addition to reviewing related materials and previous studies, interviews with the Japan Tourism Agency, industry associations, and operators, and on-site inspection surveys were conducted for a comprehensive study. As a result, the following issues were identified in Japan. 1. Major companies and advanced destinations have obtained certification and are utilizing it, but overall, understanding of the certification system is insufficient. Furthermore, since there is no GSTC certification body in Japan, applying for international certification is an economic burden for small and medium enterprises. If domestic certification bodies were to comply with GSTC standards, and if application procedures were simplified and costs reduced, the diffusion of GSTC certification would be promoted. 2. Some commented that the cost-effectiveness of the system is unclear. This may be due to the lack of information provided to consumers. If easy-to-understand information such as "Sustaina-Travel" and "Sustaina-Yado" by Rakuten Travel is provided widely, the certification system may become more widespread. 3. There is a lack of professional human resources necessary for certification. Education at tourism-related universities and vocational schools is also important. From the perspective of increasing international competitiveness, such as increasing the number of foreign tourists and attracting MICE, it is necessary to take prompt action to acquire certification. Research should be continued to promote the diffusion of the certification system in Japan and to identify issues in its implementation, and to resolve these issues. |
