| 内容記述 | In contemporary society, we tend to regard being "useful" as a fundamental value in every aspect of life, driving ourselves almost obsessively to become individuals who are constantly "useful" to others. As a result, we are perpetually haunted by an underlying anxiety or impatience that we might be "useless" after all. In other words, modern society is permeated by an ever-present algorithm that commands: "Thou shalt be useful." In response to this condition, I believe that philosophy can make an important contribution. Because throughout the history of philosophy, almost all philosophers have repeatedly examined the very question of what it means for something to be really "useful," attempting to suspend and critically interrogate the prevailing algorithmic imperative "Thou shalt be useful" that has shaped each era. From this perspective, this paper turns to the insights of Socrates and Plato, who delivered the first major shock to established assumptions about usefulness within the Western philosophical tradition. The analysis in this paper will show that their insights carry a performative significance: they dismantle preconceived notions concerning "usefulness" and "happiness", and they reactivate the fundamental question of what it truly means to be useful. |
