Japan is no exception, but the rate of successful applicants is very low. Besides the low rate of applications and awarding of refugee status, the support system for applicants provided by the government is not sufficient. Although a few non-government organizations support refugees/asylum seekers, they are faced with financial difficulties and a shortage of staff to provide services. In this paper, possible approaches for social workers in this new field, in particular, mezzo level group activities are discussed. The project of group activities was planed through a collaboration between a NGO which called the Japan Association for Refugees (JAR) and with university students. The purposes of the project are (1) to give mental support refugees / asylum seekers who live alone without their community, (2) to promote understanding about refugee /asylum seekers among the Japanese university students who are learning social work and to educate them for practical skills through planning and doing group activities. The group activities including picnic, party and visiting traditional place were held three times last year. Overall refugees/asylum seekers who joined the programs seemed to be satisfied; however it is difficult to measure their satisfaction and it cannot be said that the programs have so far led to a reduction in their mental illness. On the other hand, students have become to understand and to be interested in refugee issues by communicating with them. Also, students could learn practical skills such as capability of planning projects and of communicating to people from different backgrounds. Therefore it could be said that the project was effective in terms of student education.}, pages = {235--243}, title = {難民(認定申請者)への精神的なサポートとソーシャルワーク教育 : グループ・アクティヴィティを通して}, volume = {29}, year = {} }
