This study sought to examine Japanese young people's desire for security or stability. One thousand men and women ages 18 to 59 completed a web-based survey. That survey involved a questionnaire based on Schein's concept of career anchors. Survey results failed to reveal a \"desire for stability in youth\" in terms of chronological age but they did reveal a \"desire for stability in individuals with a limited work history.\" As job seekers face a harsh hiring climate, they express the desire for a secure or stable job at the company where they are applying.
