The author succeeded in getting a new idea about the classification of the accent by analyzing the Provence (one of the French dialects) sound, in the way having to do with acoustic phonetics. That is, it is to appeal for the philological accent, in addition to the traditional phonological accent, and the phonetical accent.
Also, as the by-product, so far, as for both, it pointed out a sometimes continuous segmental sound and the prosody.
Incidentally, it means <signe diacritique> of <accent aigu, accent grave, accent circonflexe, tréma, cédille> and so on, which is used in French as the specific example which is related to the philological accent, which was described above and the unique notation which was used from the old days by the historical linguistics and so on.
