Every culture in the world has its own essence, which cannot be translated. On the other hand, even if it were not for the untranslatable essence, the culture could not be translated either; lack of the essence could not produce any differences between the translated culture—the object of translation—and the translating culture—the subject of translation. Where there were no differences between two cultures (or, languages), there would not be any need for their translations. \n In The Conjure Woman, Charles Chesnutt, its author, is dealing with the same problem: how Southerners can describe their antebellum culture to Northerners. The narrator called Julius, an ex-slave, tells a lot about the “slavery South” to a Northern couple: John, a white entrepreneur who admits no differences whatever of the slavery South from the modern North, and his wife called Annie, who “feels” that the former is “essentially” different from the latter. Whenever Julius talks, he tries to stand between John and Annie in order to obtain some benefits from them; this “in-betweenness” alone enables translators of culture like Julius (and Chesnutt) to transcend the impossibility of translation in a “limited” time.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_5_description_38":{"attribute_name":"フォーマット","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_description":"application/pdf","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_5_source_id_19":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"09147977"}]},"item_5_text_39":{"attribute_name":"本文言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"日本語"}]},"item_5_text_42":{"attribute_name":"ID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"BKK0003072"}]},"item_5_text_7":{"attribute_name":"Author","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"Morimoto, Nari"}]},"item_5_text_8":{"attribute_name":"所属機関","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"文教大学文学部"}]},"item_5_text_9":{"attribute_name":"Institution","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_text_value":"Bunkyo University, Faculty of Language and Literature"}]},"item_5_version_type_35":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorAffiliations":[{"affiliationNameIdentifiers":[{"affiliationNameIdentifier":""}],"affiliationNames":[{},{}]}],"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"森本, 奈理"},{"creatorName":"モリモト, ナリ"},{"creatorName":"Morimoto, Nari"}],"familyNames":[{},{},{}],"givenNames":[{},{},{}],"nameIdentifiers":[{},{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2018-03-22"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"BKK0003072.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"381.7 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"BKK0003072.pdf","url":"https://bunkyo.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/3031/files/BKK0003072.pdf"},"version_id":"9723e569-e122-4190-b280-1b4b92a6ad4b"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"jpn"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"文化を翻訳する人々 : 『魔法使いの女』におけるジュリアスの地政学的戦略","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"文化を翻訳する人々 : 『魔法使いの女』におけるジュリアスの地政学的戦略"},{"subitem_title":"Translators of Culture : Julius’Geopolitics in The Conjure Woman"}]},"item_type_id":"5","owner":"3","path":["622"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2015-09-17"},"publish_date":"2015-09-17","publish_status":"0","recid":"3031","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["文化を翻訳する人々 : 『魔法使いの女』におけるジュリアスの地政学的戦略"],"weko_creator_id":"3","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-04-29T03:56:34.124759+00:00"}
