This is a report of four year research project (1999 - 2002), investigating the spread and the use of the Internet in five different areas in Japan. The use of the Internet was measured in terms of time spent using the web and e-mail. Although spread and use in those areas were still transitional and showed regional differences, there were similarities, to some extent, in the use of the Internet. As similar results appeared in each area, these can be regarded as general results, and it becomes possible to use them as a starting point to explain changes in media use and social life. In this report, personal computer use of the Internet is described and that of cellular phone use is not included. The reason is that the usage time of the Internet on cellular phones is generally shorter than on personal computers, and its influence is considered relatively small.}, pages = {213--226}, title = {インターネットの普及と利用}, volume = {30}, year = {} }
