内容記述 Only two male trees with some microsporangia on the leaf margin have been known till now in Japan. Moreover, one of them does not produce any microsporangia on the leaf, probably because of its bad health. So the trial to get any more male trees which produce such microsporangia was intended. It may be considered that the offspring originated from the fertilized egg cell of the female gametophyte produced in the ovule on the leaf of the female tree by the sperm derived from the pollen produced on the leaf of the male tree may have a character to produce leaves bearing microsporangia at high probability.\nThe experiments of artificial fertilization were carried out in two succesive years. Only one embryo developed in the tissue of the female gametophyte cultured in vitro, but during the growth till the next spring the gametophyte in the culture vessel became hard and dried. A part of cotyledons of this embryo was buried in the hardened gametophyte. Hypocotyl of the embryo was fixed, buried in paraffin and stained with toluidine blue-O. According to the cell configuration observed under the microscope, the hypocotyl tissues looked healthy, so the trial to get the embryo may be succeeded.\nThe callus derived from the cultured female gametophyte was cultured for over two years was observed. The cells of the callus were quite active so as to undergo cell division, and chromosomes were observed in them.
