But there is little information about woman employees especially about woman executives in small - and medium- sized companies. The purpose of this paper is to study some cases of woman executive directors in small- and medium- sized companies and to analyze them on the following four points: 1) How woman executive directors got the present positions. 2) Whether the power which they have in thier company is strong or not. 3) How they formed a relation to thier associates or thier subordinates. 4) Whether being "woman" executive director was merit or demerit, for them to work in thier company.  Total 19 cases were collected by interview method using semi - structured interviews of two to five hours in length. Following items were interviewed: thier life styles, personal histories, and thier attitudes towards business activities and work.  Of 19 cases, 6 subjects were founder's relatives (founder's wives were 5 cases among 6), and 5 were co - founders of company. In most of these 11 cases, they got the present position since the company was founded, 8 were promoted to the present position from lower position in thier company ( 5 cases required less than 10 years to get the present position since they started to work there).  There were many differences in attitudes towards business and way of work among 19 cases. They can be divided into two groups. One group took an important role in management. Most of subjects in this group were founder's relatives or co - founders. They exceeded in personnel management. Another took a relatively small roll in management. People in this group were seemed to work as middle class manager rather than executive director, but they had a speciality and a lot of ability in their own job. The power which the former group had formed were chiefly caused by thier president, and the power of the latter one were caused by thier own speciality and ability. In both cases their relationship to the president played very important roles to perform their jobs in their company.}, pages = {56--73}, title = {中小企業における女性役員の地位形成に関する研究}, volume = {7}, year = {} }
