The kinds of image information are classfied into two types. One is the type of one?way distributions such as cable televisions, and another is the type of two?way communications such as face to face visual communications with video?phones. The potential needs of the former type services are shown by the recent growth of the satellite broadcasting and the multi?channel CATV, but those of the latter type services are unclear. There are very many situations and conditions, in which the merits of face to face communications will vary greatly. A person may get a great merit in one case, but may get a great demerit in another case. But now discussions should start to promote visual communications services for the near future. And in order to help the discussions, situations and conditions were investigated and analysed in this paper, which might cause merits and demerits in face to face visual communications.
