The first half is review of tourism history of Japan from standpoint of region. The latter half is concept of Tourism design. Tourism of japan has long history since 7century’s Ise-mairi and Kumano-moude. But individuals’ free travel has started late Meiji era for domestic, after WWII for international tourism. Under over twenty years’ mass tourism period almost 1960s-1990, tourism business has rapidly developed especially for tourism companies, transportation system, accommodation development which leaded mass productive tour system and construction of giant buildings. After mass tourism period, regional initiative in tourism industry has appeared. Green-tourism, Eco-tourism and other tourism conducted local players suggested tourism as human scale communication. In these years, synergy between tourism development and community development seems common approach in many areas after Tourism Nation declaration. And nowadays tourism industry got from personal scale to wide scale.
