The study was undertaken from the tourist’s behavioural perspective and the data was collected at the individual level. Both deductive and inductive reasoning were adopted in forming constructs, which then inform and a hypothetical model in explaining the phenomenon.  A qualitative part of study is the focus of this paper and the interview data represent lived experiences of the young Japanese who cooperated with the study. Coding procedure was adopted of categories, some of which are relevant to theoretical notions elaborated by research practices other than tourism such as Leisure Constraints Research and Social Cognitive Theory. Among them are concepts of Negotiation and Self-effi cacy. At the same time, each individual interview was reconstructed into a meaningful storyline or a respective model. The phenomenon has drawn interests of tourism trade, government and the general public in Japan as it does connote not just a shrink of outbound tourism market but inner looking attitude of the young generation of our own time.}, pages = {53--81}, title = {当事者の声から読み解く“日本の若者の海外旅行離れ”を巡る諸概念 : 観光行動研究×質的研究アプローチ}, volume = {25}, year = {} }
