Some 300 Swedish organizations receive government support as Sweden's international development cooperation. All Swedish development cooperation is guided by primary objective which is to improving the living standard of the poorest people. In Bangladesh, support is concentrated to the area of health and education as well as rural development. The further support shall be given to projects which promote the protection of human right and the development of democracy. The direct support to local NGOs in the rulal development sector has been futher concentrated. Focus still remains on long term collaboration with a few NGOs experimenting with micro credits, training for income generating activities and awareness rasing of rural poor women and men. Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, Friends in Village Development Bangladesh, Proshika, BURO Tangail and Integrated Development Foundation, these Bangladesh NGOs are supported by Sweden. The governmental Health and Population Project and Primary Education Development Programme are supported too.
