内容記述 The increasing number of students who are competent in using social networking tools such as instant messaging or online social space provide educators with an opportunity in developing course designs that incorporates "blended or flexible" learning. In recent years, there is a strong interest in developing programs that are characterized as being "distance education" where learning takes place independent of location and time. This calls for new practices in utilizing E-Learning models beyond traditional classroom settings. At the same time, instructors must address the age-old question of reaching students with different learning patterns. E-learning systems can provide students with the access to course information on-or-off campus, and in this new pedagogical model, instructors can provide learning tools by posting them on personal blogs, wikis or on course-created websites.
Undeniably, the impact of the Internet has opened our global networks into cyberspace interactions, and this has provided us with a more participatory culture that is empowering, and continuously expanding among its users. This emergence of online social networking communities will continue to thrive, and it may be prudent to become more cognizant of these futures trends. For educators, it may be best to learn how to integrate such technological benefits that will enhance the learning scenarios for students outside the classroom, alongside traditional methods of instruction.
