On the other hand, there is a growing demand that each university and department should make clear the level of achievements of its educational program in reference to the global standards, to guarantee and enhance the quality of education, and improve the international competitiveness. In this research note, I point out the potential roles that foreign language education can play in the improvement of undergraduate education, by examining the 'competencies to be acquired through the bachelor's degree' proposed by the Central Council for Education in its report titled 'Towards the enhancement of undergraduate education' (2008). I also overview current situations of foreign language education, based on the data released by the MEXT in 2004 through 2009.}, pages = {132--150}, title = {大学における外国語教育の現状について}, volume = {22}, year = {} }
