The devised exercises draw on the concept of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF). The exercise program is performed in a group and has an immediate effect. The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of the aforementioned exercise program. Subjects were participants in the“ Silver College” extension course jointly conducted by the City of Koshigaya and Bunkyo University. Subjects were 88 elderly individuals over the age of 60, consisting of 55 males (37%) and 33 females (37%), who participated in the 9th class on “Learning about the structure of the human body by performing an exercise program with immediate effects” held on October 15, 2014. Before the exercise program, subjects completed 1) a Numerical Rating Scale and 2) the State Anxiety Inventory, a subscale of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). In addition, after the exercise subjects completed a questionnaire regarding 3) their age group and 4) how their shoulders felt. There was a significant reduction (P<0.01) in the score on the NRS and a significant reduction (P<0.01) in the score on the State Anxiety Inventory. By age group, 41 subjects (47%) were in their 60s, 44 (50%) were in their 70s, and 3 (3%) were in their 80s. After exercising, 33 subjects (37%) described their shoulders as feeling quite relaxed, 38 (55%) described them as feeling slightly relaxed, 4 (5%) had no opinion either way, 2 (2%) felt a little discomfort, and 1 (1%) felt severe discomfort. The developed exercise program was effective at improving how the shoulder felt (e.g. relaxed) and the program had a psychological impact by reducing anxiety.}, pages = {143--149}, title = {関節・筋のはたらきに焦点をあてた軽運動の有効性について}, volume = {37}, year = {} }
