However, very few studies explain the relation between the number of words read and reading speed. In this study, the relation between the number of words participants have read and reading speed was analyzed. A very strong correlation between the two was observed (r=.776, p=.000). The results showed that the more words learners read, the faster the learners’ reading speed increases. Moreover, it is found that there is a huge difference in reading speed between readers of five hundred thousand words and readers of one million words; the former is a little faster than the average reading speed of non-native speakers (128.44 wpm), but the latter (242.67 wpm) is that of native speakers. The current article concludes that ER can enhance reading ability which is not measured by the standardized tests.}, pages = {57--65}, title = {多読学習が英文読解速度に与える効果}, volume = {28}, year = {} }
