The English signs in Japan’s popular tourist sites have to be increased in number and improved in quality so that the tourists will be able to enjoy fruitful and profitable trips to those sites.\n This paper, as a case study, examines the English signs found on signs in the popular tourist sites, such as Iwami-ginzan (-silver mines), the Shoukason-juku (-private school), the Hagi-hansharo (-reverberatory furnace), and the Munakata-taisha (-grand shrine). All of them are now inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO.\n The signs discussed here are again those which indicate the general summarized information about these sites.
