The main purpose of this study was to investigate \"changing\" attitudes as part of attitudes towards learning and the children's shutaisei (self-direction) scale created by Asaumi (1999). This study examined what sort of scales those attitudes would constitute and how they are related. One hundred and twenty-five university students, including 30 first-year students in junior college, 44 first-year students in university, and 51 third-year students in university, were surveyed at the end of the previous term.\nTowards the four factors identified by Suzuki and Okada (2018), In this study, the factors \"self-direction\" and \"intellectual curiosity\" were not evident from the Shutaisei Scale of Asaumi (1999) according to factor analysis.\nThree factors― \"aggressive action,\" \"independent decision-making,\" and \"self-expression\" ―were identified. In contrast to the findings of Suzuki and Okada (2018), \"changing\" attitudes involved \"updating,\" \"improving,\" \"contrasting,” and \"altering\" those attitudes.\nTherefore, care must be exercised when administering the Shutaisei Scale of Asaumi (1999) to university students. Nonetheless, a consistent scale for shutaisei (self-direction) was evident. In contrast, results suggested that a scale reconfigured with \"changing\" attitudes could be broken down along the dimension of attempting to revise one's image of one's self. Revising and adding items are a topic for the future.
