1949）の考え方と、Ellseberg（1961）やBudner（1962）等との定義の比較検討を行い、「多義性」を曖昧さの本質とみなし再定義を試みた。次に脅威に代え、居心地の悪さ・不快感を導入することによって、曖昧さに対する耐性―非耐性のさらなる一般化を提案した。また従来は、曖昧さを人々が一律に曖昧と認知しているという前提で研究が進められることが多かったと考えられたため、ある対象や状況を曖昧であると認知する個人差についても言及した。これらから曖昧さに対する非耐性に2
