Le Bon posited that those influences were due to suggestion, Tardo posited that they were due to imitation, and Sherif posited that they were due to sympathy. In contrast, Freud thought that an individual projected his ego ideal onto the leader of a group and the two identified each other as members of the group.\nBecause of Freud, a hero myth involves the mechanism of the ego ideal and identification as a member of a group. The oldest hero myth in Babylonia relates the typical deeds of the hero Marduk. When Laglan compared numerous hero stories, he identified 22 common characteristics.\nThe current author closely examines the symbolism of heroes studied by S. Freud, O. Rank, C.G. Jung, J. Campbell, and M.L. von Franz.
