What kind of support do foreign care workers who will potentially work as caregivers or care workers in Japan need to settle and work in Japan, where will that support be provided and by whom? This article analyzed the acceptance of foreign care workers in Japan based on an analysis of interviews with foreign care workers who are actually engaged in care work at a special nursing home for the elderly in Japan as certified care workers under an Economic Partnership Agreement. Results indicated that the retention of foreign care workers depends on whether they can stably work in Japan, have a family, and the nature of support in the workplace or in the community. Results suggested three layers of support.
