| 内容記述 | Development of the ovules on the leaf blade in Ginkgo biloba was observed. Materials were collected from the old tree cultivated in the precinct of Hongokuji temple at Minobu-chou, Yamanashi prefecture. Ovules on the leaf blade were already found in 1891 by Shiroi and Fuji. In April a small white ridge or ridges were found on the surface of some young green leaves in the short shoot. The leaf blade was always dissected at the ridge. A small hole could be detected near the top of the ridge. Some of the ridges became ovules round or slightly pointed in a subsequent week. Others remained as still ridges white or yellowish until the end of August, while ovules on the stalk were desicated and fell away, if not pollinated. Development of the ovule on the leaf is similar to that of the ordinary ovule on the stalk, though the former is always smaller in size than the latter. In June the color of the integument became green. In the sectional view of the fresh ovules on the leaf blade it was revealed that the color of the gametophyte was also green. Sections of the gametophyte fixed on the 21st of July showed that there were two archegonia in the gametophyte. |
