 note = {The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the transformation of Okinawan Brazilians that came to Mainland Japan and Okinawa in the 1970s and had been integrated into these host societies after experiencing a series of self-conflict in the process of building up a new identity. The second aim is to demonstrate, through a comparative analysis of both groups, the process of building a parallel socio-cultural multiple-standard, Brazilian and Japanese or Okinawan, after more than 10 years residence in the respective host societies. Finally, the author raises the question of cultural transmission to young generations.
The author hopes that this analysis as well as the cases discussed in this paper can help increase Japanese public opinion and arouse discussion concerning the integration of minority groups into the Japanese society.},
