| 内容記述 | Clause—particles mono no and mono o both indicate a contrast between S1 and S2 and are almost equivalent to the English "but" or "although". Mono o, adding to that meaning, indicates resentment or complaint. It is also used when S1 indicates the reason for S2, meaning "since", "as". In this paper, we will look at these particles from the pragmatic point of view. Mono o indicates the speaker's resentment at, or dissatisfaction with the situation in S2, while mono no shows the speaker's regret about, reflection on or resignation to the situation. Therefore, we can say that the speaker's feeling is toward the outside when using the former particle, whereas it is toward the inside when using the latter. It will also be explained why mono o, when it is used to indicate the reason for S2, is replaced by (noda) mono. | |||||||
