| 内容記述 | This is the second essay to try to find out the real meaning of the so-called "Shell Scandal" by the Daily Mail during World War I. It is usually assumed that the purpose of the campaign by Lord Northcliffe was to help Mr. Lloyd George to get hold of the premiership. But historians could not agree as to what were the actual processes which led to the coalition government, and the motives of participants. The writer tried to maintain that the real purpose of Lord Northcliffe was to introduce conscription prematurely, and that might be the reason why the campaign failed without tangible results. | |||||||
