| 内容記述 | The success of research and development (R&D) depends on the interactions between diverse people, including those outside a firm. In particular, the exchanges between internal and external researchers can give rise to innovative ideas. However, researchers within Japanese firms hesitate to interact with those outside the firm. Usually, invisible communities inside an organization tend not to mingle freely with those from other organizations. However, while bonding social capital provides support within a community, bridging social capital is critical for the success of R&D. We believe that researchers who have a sense of capability in R&D to a high degree are more willing to mingle with external researchers, and therefore we expect them to bring in more innovative ideas from outside. We hypothesize that a higher degree of a sense of capability will enable internal researchers to have more interactions with external researchers. Data obtained from 315 firms supports our hypothesis. | |||||||
