| 内容記述 | Time-adverbs have been considered to be a means of lexicology in the study of tense and aspect in Japanese language. However, in recently conducted research of modern Japanese adverbs, little or no attention has been paid to time-adverbs of more traditional or historical Japanese. Despite this lack of attention the field is considered important for construction of systematic Japanese time expressions. The purpose of this study is to clarify the origin and meaning of Japanese time-adverbs. It considers how old Japanese time-adverbs have changed under the influence of old Chinese time-adverbs in relation to adoption of Kanji (Chinese letters) and Kun (Japanese letters). The meaning and usage of the specific time-adverb, tokini, were affected from the old Chinese in the Nara period. It was written in Kanji (Chinese letters) and has various kinds of Kun (Japanese letters) which illustrated to the point of time and frequency. In addition tokini was also used as a conjunction and demonstrative noun following the old Chinese usage. Later, in the Heian period, it was used in Kanbunkundokubun, but not in Wabun. During the Kamakura and Muromachi periods Wakankonkohbun became popular and tokini mainly came to indicate the point of time. | |||||||
