| 内容記述 | Megan's Law requires convicted sex offenders to register with local enforcement authority, and establishes a notification process to provide information about offenders to the public. Parents of 7-year-old Megan Kanka lobbied for state and federal laws, because they did not know that a twice-convicted sex offender was living across the street until that neighbor was charged with the brutal rape and murder of their daughter. In May 1996, the Federal Megan's Law was signed by President Clinton, requiring states to disclose to the public, information about sex offenders. Many American people agree with and require such a law, however some criticize that Megan's Law accomplishes nothing other than the promotion of vigilantism. | |||||||||||||
