It is always important for web designers to create clear and useful pictograms. In this study I analyzed design elements of pictograms and improved their comprehensibility. Firstly, 157 university students rated 20 pictograms from the “Web Usability Ranking Top 100 ” based on the three criteria: recognizability, attractiveness and legibility. Secondly, using ve factors of the design standards presented by the International Organization for Standardization, issues of the pictograms were examined and those were improved. Lastly, 305 university students rated the improved pictograms based on the same criteria.
