"異年齢の子どもの交流をとくに０～２歳児との交流に焦点を当て，子どもの言動やその関わり，関わる方法などの発達的変化を分析した．０～２歳児でも，他の年齢の子どもやその行為を見つめたり，物のやり取りや模倣などをしており，関わりへの興味，関心は思った以上にあり，行動もしていた．３～５歳児の低年齢児との関わりは，相手に言葉をかけたり，使い方などをやって見せたりなど，プラスの関わりを多く持っていた．異年齢の子どもたちの関わりを発達的に見ると，相手を見たり，相手の持つ物やしていることを見る段階があり，次に模倣をするようになり，同じ動作などを通して相手と関わっていき，相手もそれを許したり受け入れたりするという段階があった．その後，物や遊びなどの行為を介したやりとりをしたり，物の使い方をやってみせたりしながら，相手の立場に立って相手に応じた行為をするようになり，言葉を使ったやりとりへと移行していった．そのための保育者の関わりの重要性や年度を追った体験の積み重ねの重要性を指摘した．",
