内容記述 | An exercise program with immediate results was developed for the elderly in 1997. This group exercise program is based on the concept of proprioceptive neuro-muscular facilitation (PNF) and it allows participants to see immediate results. The current study examined the how the exercise program affected the quality of life (specifically the health-related QOL) of participants. Subjects of this study were participants in an autumn 2016 Open University seminar on “A Refreshing Gymnastics Class: Learning the structure of the human body by following an exercise program with immediate results.” Subjects were elderly persons, including 4 males(36%)and 7 females(64%). The exercise program was conducted four times a week for one month. The SF-36v2 Health Survey served as a generic measure of QOL at the start and the end of the one-month class. The survey was administered to determine the short-to-medium-term effects of the exercise program. Statistically significant differences in scores on the “Role Functioning Physical”(p<0.01), “Bodily Pain”(p<0.05), “General Health Perception”(p<0.05), “Vitality”(p<0.05), “Social Functioning” (p<0.05), and “Mental Health”(p<0.05)subscales of the SF-36v2 were noted although the average scores in those 8 domains improved. In fact, results suggested that conducting this exercise program for 1 month may help to improve participants’ QOL. |
