| 内容記述 | This paper describes institutional feature of South Korean government’s disease control agency from the perspective of political science employing the methodology of chronological comparison. Facing the pandemic of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infectious disease, South Korean government has implemented rapid and nationwide countermeasures. As of the end of November 9, 2020, South Korean government confirms amount 25,553 positive cases and 480 deceased cases by COVID-19, which is lower than most other developed countries. The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, formerly known as Korea Centers for Disease Control (KCDC), has been pointed out as the pivot of the countermeasures. Particularly, the KCDC’s role as ‘one-stop point in terms of COVID-19’ has been their institutional feature. The author’s chronological comparison with the Economic Planning Board (EPB) in the 1960s and the Trade Representative in the 2000s points out that the KCDC’s role as one-stop point is on a path dependency in South Korean government. This indicates the possibility that governments can employ not new but ‘old’ and ‘used’ institutional approach as countermeasures in crisis. | |||||||
