| 内容記述 | This study examined the concept of “self” according to Ovide Decroly in the history of thought. Decroly’s “self” is linked to tendencies, soul, and life. The Belgian psychiatrist and educator Ovide Decroly was active from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Decroly’s educational ideas were circulated through a curriculum known as the “Decroly Method” in the New Education Movement. His ideas were based on his treatment, education, and study of handicapped children at the time. Previous studies have focused on the Decroly Method presented by him and his collaborators, but few studies having analyzed the concept of “self,” which plays a key role in his ideas. The current study identifies “self” as a dynamic whole, consisting of both biological and mental factors. Decroly’s ideas and activities, and especially those related to handicapped children, were considered to be a type of social defense from the perspective of governance. However, his ideas also have philosophical and spiritual aspects. The “self” as not just a surface phenomenon but is also associated with fond (bottom). Decroly expressed this using words like tendances (tendencies) and âme (soul). For Decroly, there is no paradox between exploring the soul and scientifically studying tendencies during his time. Within the context of the history of thought, Decroly’s “self” falls within the lineage of ideas about life inspired by Henri Bergson. |
