| 内容記述 | In Shakespeare's plays, there are those scenes whose primary function is to drive the story forward with great impetus. For example, 1 Henry IV, II.iii and Romeo and Juliet, V.i are such 'impelling' scenes. It is noteworthy that these scenes are similar in pattern : in each case, the central character receives news, commands that his horse should be prepared speedily so that he might mount it at once, announces his immediate departure, and then exits. The aim of this paper is to analyse the structure of such 'impelling' scenes from the viewpoint of communication mechanism and to consider how information about the movement of the play is communicated to the audience. | |||||||
