| 内容記述 | This study explores the differences in opinions about tolerance of immigrants in Japan and Sweden. The questionnaire survey and group interviews were conducted with the following 3 groups : university students, teachers, and welfare personnel in Japan and Sweden. The questionnaire survey found that Swedes answered positively to all of the independent questions about tolerance and multiculturalism. However, among the groups of welfare personnel and teachers in Japan answers were mostly negative and a higher level of education and high social status has not encouraged tolerance of immigrants or supported multiculturalism. In order to make an interpretation of the statistical output, follow-up group interviews were conducted in both countries. This paper focuses on analysing of discussion of group interviews showed a variety of interpretations about the differences between Japan and Sweden, including frequency of contact with immigrants, communication skills by English language, historical issues and the national sharacters. |
