| 内容記述 | In this paper, I investigate how university students use mobile phones, mobile-mail (e-mail via mobile phone) and e-mail via PC. In particular, I examine the usage of mobile phones in comparison with the results of similar research done in 1999. The major. findings are as follows : (1) As in thel999 research, the most important aspect, of a mobile phone for men is that it, is their own private line; for women, that it is a means of security. (2) People who use the caller-ID service as a basis for answering calls depend more on their mobile phones, and keep more selective relations with friends. (3) Generally, students use mobile-mail more than e-mail via PC. Women use mobile-mail more than men and men use e-mail more than women. (4) Since 1999, the use of mobile-mail has become more common among students, and they select mobile-mail as their means of communication in many situations. (5) Compared with people who use both mobile-mail and e-mail, people who use only mobile-mail are not good at using PCs and the Internet and feel them to be difficult to use. Those who use only mobile-mail tend to be freshmen and sophomores. (6) Heavy users of mobile phones and mobile-mail tend to be sociable, but this was not found with heavy PC e-mail users. \n 本稿は2001年5,6月に関東の2大学と関西の2大学でおこなった携帯電話利用についての質問紙調査の結果を報告するものである。筆者を含めた研究グループでは1995年以来インタビュー調査や質問紙調査によって携帯電話やPHS 、ポケベルなど移動体、メディアの利用実態を明らかにすると同時に、それらのメディアが人々のコミュニケーションや人間関係、社会に与える影響を考察してき(たとえば、松田,1996:富田ほか,1997:松田ほか,1998:松田,2000)。それらの研究の延長上にある今回の調査は、多機能化し、普及が進む携帯電話の利用実態を明らかにすると同時に、より直接的には1999年5-6月に関東と関西の大学生を対象として行った質問紙調査との比較検討を目的としている。 1999年におこなった調査では、携帯電話利用者は非利用者と比べるとより社交的であること、携帯電話は男性にはより「個人専用の連絡手段」として、女性にはより「安心のためのメディア」して利用される傾向があること、文字通信機能は男性より女性が頻繁に利用する傾向があり、かつ女性の方が状況に応じてメディアを使い分けをおこなう傾向があること、携帯電話のヘビーユーザーはより社交性が高く、携帯電話を用いて「つきあう相手」をより選択する傾向があること、発信者番号表示を用いて通話相手の選別をおこなう人は、より携帯電話に依存する傾向があり、機械親和性やイノベーター度が高いこと、対人関係一般はより選択的であり、家族に対しても心理的距離をより感じていること、携帯電話利用者にとって「人間関係は大切」であり、携帯電話は友人との関係を保つ上で必需品と位置づけられているが、一方では他人に煩わされたくないという志向も高いことなどの傾向がみられた(岡田ほか,2000)。 これらの知見を踏まえ、まず、性別と利用頻度による利用状況の違いを99年調査と比較しながらまとめた上で、次に、iモードなどインターネット接続可能な携帯電話端末の普及により広がっている文字通信機能の利用状況とパソコンを経由しての電子メールの利用状況に焦点をあてて、調査結果を報告することとする。 |
